What is Off Off Broadway? The only musical theatre organization on campus! We are a completely student run and wonderfully inclusive group of students who love to work in all aspects of theatre and create fully produced musicals.
-
How often do you perform? We produce two shows a year, one in the fall and one in the spring!
-
Are you connected to the theatre department? We are independent from the theatre department, but work with them for our theatre spaces and resources.
-
Where can I look for more information on your organization? Please check us out on any social media platforms @offoffbway or feel free to contact us!
-
I don’t want to be IN the show but I want to SEE it. Where can I find that information?Follow @offoffbway on social media for updates, or check back on the "This Year" page on our website! Our shows are free to the public and we use a ticket reservation system that will be posted on our website and our social media a few weeks before the show.
-
What is your show this semester?Heathers: the Musical
-
Are there opportunities for leadership in your organization? We hold elections every semester for numerous leadership and design positions. As a member of our organization, you would be able to run for these positions.
-
How much time will I need to commit to this organization? We work with everyone’s schedules because Off Off Broadway understands we are all college students! We have examples of how much time we expect on our Interest Form for specific roles, and with Backstage Work you typically set your own time commitment. Minimally, you will be expected to attend a meeting each week, and attend all rehearsals tech week, and all shows.
-
Do I need to have a lot of experience in musical theatre to audition or be in the org?Definitely not! We pride ourselves on being a community of musical theatre lovers! We don’t require any minimum level of experience to participate.
-
Do I need to go to all of the Interest Meetings? CAN I go to all of the Interest Meetings? You only need to and should attend one. They all have the same information! Attending will give you all the information you need to start getting involved!
-
What if I cannot attend any of the interest meetings? Will this information be available anywhere?Yes! Email us at offoffbway@gmail.com and we will send you the information.
-
Do I have to audition to be a part of your organization? No, definitely not! We welcome members who just want to work backstage or be a part of one of our committees! You can work on costumes, set, tech crew, and so much more.
-
What does the audition entail? What do I need to prepare? There are three parts to the audition: singing, dancing, and acting. You will prepare a selection of a song for the singing portion, you will be given a cold read for the acting, and you will be taught a short segment of choreography for the dancing. Check each semester for specifics on each show's requirements!
-
Do you turn people away if they audition?Off Off Broadway reserves the right to turn people away if there is overwhelming interest. However, there is always room on committees, backstage, and in tech work!
-
Do I have to do all parts of the audition?Yes, we require auditionees to sing, act, and dance. Check out our semester page for more information on auditioning. You can also email offoffbway@gmail.com for more info!
-
What kind of song should I sing for my audition? Is this specific song okay?We recommend a songs in a style similar to that of the show that best shows off your voice! We generally provide a list of similar shows but this is obviously not all inclusive, and it is more important to us that you sing something that you are comfortable singing, that shows us you! Singing songs from the show being auditioned for is never allowed.
-
What if I can’t make the audition?Sometimes we will give you the opportunity to submit a video audition, however, not always. If you are sure that you are unable to attend auditions, please contact us at offoffbway@gmail.com.
-
What if I cannot make it to callbacks? We do not offer video or Skype callbacks. If you cannot attend callbacks, your consideration for roles will be based on your original audition only. We will still include you in a callback list, with the understanding that casting will be done with your original audition only.
-
What does being on a committee mean?It means you get to contribute to the show in another way besides just being in it, or by enriching our organization! We are completely student-run, so it is a necessary and FUN way to help produce our shows!
-
What if I’m only interested in one specific committee? We have people rank their choices, taking into account both their listed skills and their rankings. We always try to give people their top two committees, and have managed to do that for as long as we have been doing committees this way! You don't have to perform to be in a committee!
-
I’m interested in tech work, how does that work?Talk to our Set Designers or Stage Manager about specifics! We have many backstage and Tech positions available. Just fill out the interest form to let us know what you’re interested in doing!
